Deltarune
Deltarune release date: 2018 yearDeltarune is the sequel to the pixel game Undertale, also developed by Toby Fox. The game was initially conceived as a multi-part project, but currently only the first chapter is available. Unlike its predecessor, Deltarune introduces new mechanics right from the start, while still staying true to the core principles of the original. However, like Undertale, Deltarune evokes mixed feelings.
The story of Deltarune unfolds in the same world as Undertale, but with new characters and events. The player once again finds themselves in a strange world where they must interact with various creatures, solve puzzles, and make decisions that will influence the course of events. At first glance, the story seems more ambitious, but plot twists can sometimes be predictable, and while some characters are interesting, they remain underdeveloped. Deltarune uses an improved battle system, similar to the mechanics of Undertale, but now features new elements, such as the ability to control multiple characters in combat. The battles still rely on turn-based tactics, where the player can choose to either attack enemies or interact with them peacefully. The pixel art style has become more detailed, and the animations are smoother. The music, like in the first part, is praiseworthy: it's emotional, though at times it can feel somewhat intrusive, especially as it repeats throughout the game. As in Undertale, Deltarune features a system of moral choices where the player's actions can impact the story. However, unlike the first game, it doesn't emphasize the choice between violence and peace as much. Fights can often be resolved peacefully, but the game frequently presents dilemmas where the decision between aggression and nonviolence doesn't feel as significant.
Deltarune is an attempt to continue the path started with Undertale, but despite its new mechanics, it remains very similar to the original in many ways.
