Streets of Rogue is a rogue-like game that focuses on player choice and experimentation. Unlike traditional dungeon settings, the game is set in a procedurally generated city where diverse AI-controlled characters go about their daily lives. Players can choose from various roles, such as a soldier, a stealthy doctor, a friendly bartender, or even a highly intelligent gorilla, each offering unique gameplay styles. The game features the ability to play without killing, hacking computers, and using a vast array of items, including shrink rays, hypnotizing devices, boomboxes, bear traps, and food processors, among others. It also supports up to four-player online and local cooperative modes, allowing players to explore the city together, leading gangs, freeing slaves, drinking beer, fighting ghosts, and more, making it one of the most varied games in the genre.
